Circumcision row in Germany sees tempers flare

The debate over religious circumcision in Germany continues to rage after Chancellor Angela Merkel told her party the country risked becoming a "laughing stock" over a court ruling calling religious circumcision a criminal act, according to a report. AFP

BERLIN—Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel told her party the country risked becoming a “laughing stock” over a court ruling calling religious circumcision a criminal act, according to a report Monday.

The mass-circulation daily Bild said in an article to be published Tuesday that Merkel warned the board of her conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) that Germany must restore legal protection for circumcision.

“I do not want Germany to be the only country in the world in which Jews cannot practise their rites,” Bild quoted Merkel as saying, citing several CDU members who attended the meeting.

“Otherwise we would make ourselves a laughing stock among nations.”

Merkel’s centre-right government has pledged to take quick action to protect the right of Jews and Muslims to circumcise baby boys on religious grounds, and voiced concern about the ruling by the court in Cologne published in June.

The court said the removal of the foreskin for religious reasons amounted to grievous bodily harm and was therefore illegal, in a judgement that prompted an outcry at home and abroad.

Diplomats admit that the ruling has proved “disastrous” to Germany’s international image, particularly in light of its Nazi past, following uproar from religious and political leaders in Israel as well as Muslim countries.

Ha, this is one of those arguments it’s not worth getting into! If you’re intact, you oppose circumcision. If your parents gave you the chop, you support it.

FWIW it’s worth, I think circumcising kids is wrong – they should at least be able to choose when they’re adults. But guess what, I’m supot :)

    • generalproblem

hahaha try it simon it is more fun

Can he have his foreskin back on if he doesn’t like it?

      • generalproblem

well hugh why dont you try the pinoy cut. pinoy cut does not remove any skin its just cut the skin to expose the head. unlike the german cut that remove the foreskin if you dont like it then ask the doctor to sew it again. thats is why it is more fun on pinoy dick hehehe. try it dont be afraid be a man.

    • Branch_Warren

i agree. it should be a matter of choice. it so happened that in the philippines, it is a way to “enter” manhood” so most if not all have it chopped.

And yet you have a Jewish name sir hehehe but you’re right about the choice thing.

    • indiots

simon try to chop it. you’ll get more satisfaction in sex when you are circumcised. i experienced the difference.

      • Simon Ward

You mean you had it done as an adult, voluntarily? I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who’s done that. Can I ask why? Did you change your faith? Surely you didn’t do it because someone who was circumcised told you it was better for sex, right? I’ve heard that argument many times, but it’s always been from people who were virgins when they had it done!

      • indiots

i have a sex relation before i was cut. i can’t feel the inner side because i felt my pennis just coming in and out of my skin. so i approach my father and have cut.

  • just_and_equitable

Hitler despised the Jews because of circumcision, now, Germany is on its way to hating the Jews again…

    • panhase

       You should rethink your post.

    • $25214711

Hitler hated the Jews because for them, all jews are sub-human. Hindi yata sa pagtutuli yun sir. Issue ng race yata yun dahil yung ilang german catholic nagpapatuli rin.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_C6A4TBCEGDYSN6YG5ATKFQ6RSU Hugh

This was nothing to do with the Jews. The court was considering a Muslim boy’s bad circumcision, and found ANY unnecessary circumcision breaks their Basic Law, which guarantees bodily integrity.

  • indiots

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CLAVQNJZWFOPV654ZF6OPYMCAI Manny

  • indiots

pagkasupot ka para kang may suot na maluwang na condom he he he

  • Yxon

    • indiots

sa ibang issue kailangan talaga may batas. pero tuli, parang inalisan tayo ng karapatan kung maging ano ang gusto sa sarili. baka darating ang araw ang pagiging tomboy o bakla ay covered na rin ng batas.
