Reynaldo Castelo, 51, driver of an EPE Taxi (TWV-948), of Nueva Ecija, voluntarily turned himself over to the police and is facing a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

SPO2 Jaime Gonzales Jr. of the Manila Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit revealed that the incident happened at around 4:30 a.m. Friday along España Boulevard near the corner of Blumentritt Street in the Sampaloc District.

Gonzales said that before the incident, Castelo was driving along the Quezon City-bound lane of España when four pedestrians, who apparently shunned an elevated footbridge, suddenly darted across the street, ignoring the green light.

Castelo swerved to avoid three of the pedestrians but hit the fourth man, who turned out to be Cabasisi. The taxi driver stopped and brought the injured pedestrian to the nearest hospital but his effort to save the man proved futile.
