“With the large population of Quezon City, the people of this local government unit undoubtedly deserve additional seats in the House of Representatives,” said Marcos who chairs the Senate Committee on Local Government.

He added that District 2, “has a constituency in size and land area bigger than all the other existing districts in Quezon City combined.”

According to the 2010 records of Quezon City, its 2nd District accounts for more than 1.7 million of the city’s total 2.9 million population. RA 10170 will divide it evenly among three districts, each having proper political representation in the House of Representatives and local City Council. The new law also provides that the reapportionment of Quezon City’s Legislative districts shall take effect in the next national and local election following the signing of the law.
