A TRUCKLOAD of garbage was taken from the waters of  public beaches in barangay Marigondon in Lapu-Lapu City  during a coastal and underwater clean-up last week.

The clean-up project is in line with the celebration of the 17th Police Community Relation (PCR) month which is celebrated for the whole month of July.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Scuba Divers Team led by SPO2 Rodito Viovicente together with the different dive shop owners, Philipine Coast Guard Auxillary led by Simplicio Gilig Jr., Patriot divers, barangay Marigondon personnel and National Police Commission joined the coastal clean-up drive.

Most of the garbage taken from the underwater were plastics of junk food. Decaying seaweeds and seagrasses were also taken as they distract swimmers.

“Regular man ang among gihimo nga mga projects sama sa mangrove planting, feeding, drug awareness campign ug kining mga clean-ups, pero karong buwana mao gyud ang PCR month,” said Viovicente. /Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
