PJ, Gwen Garcia drum up support in south Cebu

Gov pleased with higher ranking in SWS survey

By

While the Liberal Party (LP) was celebrating a new alliance in north Cebu yesterday, the Garcias drummed up support in the south.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and her brother Rep. Pablo John Garcia shook hands with students and vendors in Carcar City which celebrated its 5th Charter Day yesterday.

The Garcias are sure of suport from five of six mayors in the 1st district.

Only San Fernando town Mayor Antonio Canoy is supporting the LP’s tandem of Hilario Davide Jr. and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale.

In a speech during the turnover of a two-classroom building of the Napo Elementary School, Governor Garcia asked support for her brother PJ and her own Senate bid next year.

“I only have one year left to serve you as governor. Are you happy with what I have done? We should continue the programs I started,” she said.

She also asked the crowd to support her bid to become Cebu’s first woman senator.

Garcia later told reporters that she was happy about the improvement in her rankings in the latest Social Weather Station survey results.

“It’s very encouraging. This happened even if we haven’t launched advertisements,” she said.

The SWS survey placed Governor Garcia at the 26th spot among 44 possible senatorial aspirants. . She ranked 32nd in the Pulse Asia Survey. Garcia said she used to be ranked on the 45th spot in the survey.

“We are hoping to solidify the Bisaya vote. It would really help if every Cebuano who has a relative outside the province can be asked to support me.” Pablo John, in a speech in front of Carcar City Hall, said he said would prioritize education if ever he’s elected governor.

Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura and Naga City Mayor Valdemar Chiong said they will support the candidacies of Gwen and Pablo John because “The governor has done many things.”
