CAMP PACIANO RIZAL—Two suspected motorcycle thieves were killed in a clash with police in Los Baños, Laguna on Wednesday, authorities said yesterday.

Los Baños police chief Supt. Dante Novicio said by phone that policemen spotted the suspects past 6 p.m. on Jamboree Road in Barangay Timugan and flagged them down for driving a motorcycle without a license plate.

The two men instead ran past the authorities, prompting a police chase until they reached a portion of the slopes of Mt. Makiling.

One of the suspects opened fire, Novicio said, forcing policemen to return fire. Each of the suspects suffered at least three gunshot wounds in the body.

Police said they recovered  a .38 cal. revolver and a hand grenade from the suspects. The two men were still unidentified until yesterday, said Novicio.

The motorcycle was later found to have been stolen from Wilfredo Palis, who had left it parked unattended on Wednesday morning in the neighboring village of Anos.
