Work on for Calungsod thanksgiving site

By

DEVELOPMENT of the venue of the Pedro Calungsod canonization thanksgiving mass has already started in the South Road Properties (SRP).

A templete or “small temple” will rise in a 27-hectare portion of the reclamation area south of Cebu City.

Around one million Catholic devotees are expected to attend the Mass honoring the second Filipino saint on Nov. 30.

When Cebu Daily News yesterday visited the site adjacent to SM Seaside City in the, a bulldozer was levelling the soil.

Bulldozer operator Armando Perez of Geo-transport and Construction, Inc. said he started whittling tall grass June 19.

Operations in the site start from 8 a.m until 10 p.m, with breaks in between, he explained.

“Kinahanglan sapsapon ang sagbot nga tag-as aron mahibaw-an namo asa ang lawm ug taas aron dali ra pagpatag,” We have to whittle the grass to determine which part so that it is easy to level the soil),” Perez said.

Once leveled, the soil will be filled limestone, he said.

In a meeting last June 5 at the Archbishop’s Residence June 5, Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal and Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma accepted the offer of SM Prime Holdings to develop the eyed lot in SRP for free.

The first Visayan martyr will be canonized October 21 in Vatican City.

The National thanksgiving Mass will be held after the Duaw Nasud, a national pilgrimage of soon-to-be St. Pedro Calungsod image from Rome in key dioceses.
