CIE tops cyberfair contest anew
Cebu Daily NewsFor the second consecutive year, high school students of the Centre for International Education (CIE) British School in Cebu City garnered the Platinum Award in the annual International Schools CyberFair competition conducted by GlobalSchoolNet, a web-based worldwide non-profit educational organization.
The CIE techies topped the International Schools Cyberfair 2012 competition in the local attractions (natural and man-made) category with their project entitled “Take a Trip to Bohol, Wander in Manila.”
The recognition continues the momentum of their breakthrough Platinum award in 2011 for their project “Manila Educational Tour” in the historical landmarks category.
CIE had joined the International Schools Cyberfair since 2004. Its students had won Gold honors in 2004 and 2005 (“Cebu – Trippy Bai!” for local attractions category, and “Simply Cebu” for local specialties category, respectively), Silver honors in 2003 and 2006 (“Sinulog: One Beat, One Rhythm, One Nation”; and “Cebu – A Self- Portrait”, both for local music and art category, respectively), and honorable mention in 2007 (“Litson” for local specialties category).
The theme for this year’s competition is “Dream and Unite.”
Now on its 17th year, the Cyberfair has involved more than 2.5 million students from 45,500 schools across 115 countries.
According to its website, the International Schools CyberFair “is an award-winning, authentic learning program used by schools and youth organizations around the world. Students conduct research about their local communities and then publish their findings on the World Wide Web. Recognition is given to schools for the best projects in each of eight categories: local leaders, businesses, community organizations, historical landmarks, environment, music, art, and local specialties.”
Competition judging is done online. Students evaluate each others projects by using a web-based tool designed by Global SchoolNet. The top forty entries are reviewed by international judges, to determine the winners. Winners are announced each Spring through Internet.
The mission of GlobalSchoolNet is to support 21st century learning and improve academic performance through content driven collaboration. It engages educators and students in meaningful e-learning projects worldwide to develop science, math, literacy and communication skills; foster teamwork, civic responsibility and collaboration; encourage workforce preparedness and create multi-cultural understanding.
