Two men nabbed in Mandaue carnap try

TWO men were arrested by police after they allegedly tried to steal the motorcycle of a couple in barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City.

Police said Garry Morre, 25, and Jeremel Cane, 23, both from Danao City, yielded a loaded .45 pistol and two hand-rolled marijuana sticks when they were arrested around 2 a.m. yesterday.

Police said Rudyard Gonzles, 38, and his wife Janet, 33, were about to park their motorcycle in front of their house when the two men arrived.

The couple alleged that the suspects poked  a gun at them and declared a hold-up.

Police said the suspects tried to take the motorcycle but failed to start the engine since the key was with Rudyard. Janet shouted for help and caught the attention of the bystanders, who mobbed the two suspects.

Police said Morre tried to shoot the couple but missed. The suspect squeezed the trigger anew but the gun malfunctioned.

Operatives of the Casuntingan police conducting patrol saw the commotion and arrested the two suspects.

Morre denied that they tried to rob the couple. He said they were just forced to take the motorcycle since there were two unidentified men who were chasing them.

Insp. Jimmy Fortes said further investigation will be made to find out if the two men were previously involved in the series of carnapping incidents in Mandaue.

Police said robbery, illegal possession of firearms and possession of illegal drugs will be filed against the two men today./CORRESPONDENTS FE MARIE D. DUMABOC AND NORMAN V. MENDOZA
