CEBU CITY, Philippines—A man was killed after the grenade he was about to lob at policemen exploded in his hand Thursday noon.

The police had yet to identify the fatality, who was with a group of men allegedly holding a pot session on a vacant lot in Sitio (settlement) Tigbao, Barangay (village) Talamban, Cebu City.

Senior Inspector Michael Angelo Beltran, chief of the Talamban Police precinct, said the police received a tip that a pot session was being held on the vacant lot.

One of the men then pulled out a grenade. But before he could throw the grenade to the police, Beltran said it exploded in his hand, killing him on the spot.

Beltran said they also found a gun near the man’s body.

The man’s companion was arrested by the police. Beltran, however, declined to provide details since investigation was still ongoing.
