Army troops seize NPA encampment in Capiz

MANILA, Philippines – Army troops seized a temporary encampment of the New People’s Army fighters who were training their members on bomb making in Capiz Monday morning, the military said.

Troops led by First Lieutenant Roberto Escalona were on combat operations when they caught the rebels in training for the manufacture of landmines in Buri village, Tapaz town, Major Enrico Ileto of the 3rd Army Infantry Division said.

The recovered items included a laptop computer with printer, a generator set, four improvised explosive devices (IED) used as land mines, wires for IEDs, four rifle grenades, two hand grenades, one 12 gauge shotgun, one improvised Garand rifle.

Monday’s encounter and discovery of the guerrilla encampment brought the total number of seized campsite to 25 this year alone, four of which were considered major encampments and the others were classified as satellite encampments, Ileto said.
