Man drowns in Portofino beach

A 30-year-old man died in the second drowning incident within a week at Portofino beach in barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.

Irineo Tirol, 30, of barangay Day-as, Cordova town, was swimming with co-workers when he drowned past 9 p.m. last Thursday.

Police said Tirol and his group had a drinking session then swam.

An unconscious Tirol was found floating at 9:10 p.m.

The resort’s nurse tried to revive Tirol but he remained unconscious.

Paramedics from Eemergency Rescue Unift Foundation brought Tirol to the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital where he was declared dead by the attending doctor.

Police said an investigation will be made if to find out if the resort management committed some negligence.

Police said the resort management was willing to shoulder the victim’s hospital bills and funeral expenses.

Last June 6, Crispin Cajes, a fourth year college student, drowned in the same beach while swimming with relatives celebrating the birthday of a three-year-old relative./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
