By

A “SAROK”-making venture by a Consolacion town native won the second edition of the Obra Negosyo Eskwela Countryside Enterprise Business Upliftment (One Cebu) program at the Cebu International Convention Center last Thursday.

Guillerma Balaba who partnered with the University of the Philippines-Cebu in making the “sarok,” a native hat, received P50,000 in additional capital while a trophy was awarded to the school.

In an interview, Balaba thanked the students for helping her in her business.

A sarok was placed at the back of the CICC’s plenary hall.

UP students painted the saroks with different Filipino-themed designs like a Philippine flag and also made key chains that depict a miniature sarok.

Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casino, a guest speaker in last Thursday’s event, lauded the participants and the organizers for promoting the manufacture and use of products produced by micro small medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Casino, chairman of the House committee on MSMEs, said entrepreneurial programs should be instilled in schools.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said the program had revolutionized the lives of the entrepreneurs and the students themselves.
