Danao receives good housekeeping award
City will use prize for farm-to-market roads and bridges
The Danao city government recently received a “Seal of Good Housekeeping” award from the Department of Interior and Local Government for its successful implementation of plans and programs, including delivery of basic services to the people.
Local Goverment Secretary Jesse Robredo handed the award to Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano Jr. during the “Tapatan on Disaster Preparedness and Climate Change Adaptation: Call to Action” at the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City recently.
Robredo said Danao is one of the local government units in the Central Visayas that performed well in the areas of good planning, sound fiscal management, transparency and accountability and valuing performance management.
Every town or city that has the seal of good housekeeping can claim “Matino Ako,” said Robredo in his speech delivered during a meeting in Mandaue City.
The seal of good housekeeping is among the requirements needed by the Department of Finance and the monetary board before a local government unit can borrow money from government financial institutions.
Aside from the plaque, the Danao city government also received P20 million as local government support fund.
During the opening program of the 51sth Charter Day of Danao City attended by the department heads, section heads, employees and barangay officials, Mayor Durano said “With all humility allow me to inform you, that your mayor is doing his best for the welfare of all Danawanons.”
As proof of his accomplishment in two years, Mayor Durano said the city was awarded the seal of good housekeeping.
He said the P20 million prize will fund the city’s priority projects, such as the concreting and improvement of barangay roads amounting to P4 million; construction of footbridge at Odlum, Dungga-Oguis amounting to P3 million; construction of retaining wall in a portion of Danao River in barangay Taboc, Taytay and Suba amounting to P5 million and the construction and improvement of drainage system at Tuburan Sur and Poblacion amounting to P8 million.
