Traffic enforcer gunned down in Compostela town

A 55-YEAR-OLD traffic enforcer who was moonlighting as a habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire) driver was shot dead in barangay Tamiao, Compostela town, northern Cebu.

Eugene Balansag, who had been a member of the the Compostela Traffic Office (CTO) for three months, succumbed to gunshot wounds on his head and body.

Police are still investigating the motive of the killing.

Police said Balansag was driving home when he was waylaid past 8 p.m. last Monday.

The victim had just transported a female passenger when the attack occurred.

Police said a bloodied Balansag was found slumped on the ground about 200 meters from the main road.

Some residents in the area told police that at least three gunshots were heard before the victim was found dead.

Police said no witnesses came forward to describe what happened.

Police recovered three empty shells of a .45 pistol from the scene.
