Trillanes signs bank waiver

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Monday signed an “unqualified” waiver that allows the Office of the Ombudsman access to his bank accounts.

The signing of the waiver came a week after the Senate, acting as an impeachment court, removed from office former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona for his failure to declare cash assets in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth.

The waiver relinquishes the absolute confidentiality guaranteed by laws on Secrecy of Bank Deposits and the Foreign Currency Deposit Act. Corona signed a similar waiver after evidence surfaced that he had undeclared pesos and dollar accounts.

Trillanes is the third Senator to file the unqualified waiver similar to that filed by Corona during the impeachment trial. Earlier, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero submitted his waiver to the Office of the Ombudsman while Senator Bong Revilla had earlier said that he will submit his signed waiver to the Ombudsman within the week.

“It is a time-honoured principle that a public office is a public trust. It is enshrined in the Constitution, the highest law of the land, and such command deserves utmost respect and must be the foremost rule in public service,” Trillanes said.

He said the public office must only be held as long as the people surrender their utmost trust to the public official.

“We can only maintain this public trust through transparency and accountability in our government transactions, as well as in our personal assets that we declare,” he said.

‘“By signing this waiver, we respond not only to the fervent call of our people for transparency and accountability, but more importantly, we fulfil our duty to the people and the Constitution which comes along with our mandate as elected public officials,” he added.

    • bobski43

  • Jun

Wala kasing itinatago. Yong hindi magpirma may itinatago. Klaro naman yan e.

  • doublecross

time to change….never to late for the good gov’t.

  • killerelite

its time to lay down your cards…game is over guys!

  • gardy_versozi

  • TheGUM

Way to go Senators Trillanes, Escudero and Revilla!

  • prangka

    • Facilitator1

Tama ka kabayan. All public officials (appointed or elected) shall/must sign a waiver to allow the OMBUDSMAN or his/her designated representative to gain access to his/her bank account/s either pesos or foreign currency to ensure /support TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY while in office…
As far the integrity and probity of the OMBUDMAN, these values are akin to a GUN (as quoted/declared by an anonymous writer): “Law is just like a gun. The use of it will
depend on the moral foundation and motive of the one who will use it.”
UNAUTHORIZED DISCLOSURE of said bank account is punishable by either payment of a fine or imprisonment. Monetary penalty and imprisonment should be substantial to discourage would-be violators and concurrently, protects the PRIVACY of the public official…my TWO cents…

    • Kenny

      • Harry

If Prangka is not a public official then you have no rights.

  • bobski43

Why would it take a week for Sen. Revilla for his waiver??? pole vaulting bank accounts does not take that long!!!!! he! he!

    • Franzeline Perdubal

Lipat lipat muna ng mga deposits.

      • Guest

         msimo hehe..

    • spearheads

  • mangtom

These three senators, Escudero, Cayetano, and Trillanes are setting good examples to their colleagues and other government officials, both elected and appointed. They are on the right track. We hope that their class  act will snowball and soon we will see the dawn of transparency and honesty in government service.

    Praise the Lord!!!

  • Jon

  • billy gunner

    that’s kudos to you,  senador!

i wonder what’s going on with the other judges… parang mga kawatan rin a! lol

  • Francis81

i can still vividly remember nung senate hearing on tv nung tinanong ka ni then sen noli de castro about the nine or ten Vans na nasa name mo ang registro. and u replied, “di sa akin yan. sa akin lang ipinangalang ng nanay ko yan kasi nakafinancing pa”. and when sen de castro further asked why, you said “para pag madefault sa payment ay hindi mahatak ng financing company”… sen de castro angrily said, “eh sino ka para di mahatak ng financing company yung mga vans kung hindi ka makabayad?”… i just hope we can have that live senate hearing video played again for the public to see…

Meanwhile, the Philippine president gives high five to Cameron and Obama.

Right on!  Giv me five, giv me fiv.  Neoliberal high five, austerity them peasants!  We’re d 1%.  Giv me, giv me FIVE.

Starving Greeks, who cares?  Starving Irish, Spaniards, Po po po portugese?  Who cares?

I got mines in my country of brown people where we elites exploit th f Xck out of them, we’re white you know, stick up it to their a s s ?  neoliberals we are.  Got any w h o re s, around here for me, Cameron n Obama, buddies, friends?

(SIGN OR RESIGN, yellow turd) Noynoy just took off for the UK and US, and gave the FOR WAIVER people the bird, the middle finger.

    • andres_o

      Cameron is a staunch conservative

  • KapitanBagwis

Now Trillanes can hide all his ill gotten wealth (if he have) under another name or deposit them in overseas banks like in Hongkong!

  • jan lim

the waiver they signed is only for his accounts, what about the accounts of his mother? remember that they have a history of conniving with his mother, about the vans that her mother owned and that it was named after him, so that when the payment would be defaulted they might get intimidated.

  • spearheads

The beneficiary is practically insulting the benefactor by not following his lead, di ba? Tsaka yong paborito mong Ombudsman na si lola conching at paborito mong spokesperson na si Valte ay umamin din na “the waiver in the SALn is not unconditional waiver and does not authorize the Ombudsman to peek into the bank accounts of a person.” Ano ba naman ito, nagkalaglagan na?

  • Harry

Before one can examine his accounts, he’s going to stage another coup.

  • JS

You people have no contentment in life, lahat na lang sa inyo mali… Napaghahalata tuloy kayong “haters”… Puro kayo speculations and third party info… Shame on you!

  • Abnoy tupak

Trillanes signs bank waiver..  very good move..  for transparency.

  • JJF724

But take note of the people who sumitted SALN plus bank waiver now THESE COULD BE THE GOOD CANDIDATES…  or did they just thought of it in advance already clean their bank record?

  • nti_boohaya

I have to agree with Mirian on the grounds that Delima and Henares are so closely associated with Pnoy.  There will always be a cloud of whatever ulterior motives Pnoy have should he chose one of them.  There are unknowns out there in terms of association with Pnoy who are equally qualified, competent and whose character is beyond reproach. Tamano, Teodoro or Valdez would be my choice but it’s too bad both are politically tarnished.
