MANILA, Philippines—Chief Justice Renato Corona will not personally witness how members of the Senate will vote on his fate but will watch Tuesday’s proceedings via television in his hospital room, a member of his defense team said.

Tranquil Salvador III, a spokesperson for the defense panel, said Corona will not attend the decision process in his impeachment trial as he was advised by his doctors to stay in his hospital room at The Medical City in Pasig City.

He said Corona “look(ed) better” when he visited the beleaguered chief justice on Monday night.

The chief justice “is still recovering. He’s OK. He actually look(ed)  better the last time I saw him because he’s now in a regular hospital room,” Salvador told the Inquirer.

Corona, 63, was rushed to the hospital after he complained of dizziness caused by the hypoglycemic episode he experienced after he testified for over three hours in his impeachment trial on May 22.

According to Salvador, the defense panel would wait for the verdict of the 23-member Senate before deciding what action to take in the event of a conviction.

“We’re still very hopeful. We’re very positive of how this would end” he said. “As the chief justice said, we’re leaving our fate to God.”
