One Cebu to press Agnes on vice gov post offer
The One Cebu party welcomed Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale’s decision not to run for governor, saying it fits into their plans to offer her the vice governor’s post for next year’s elections.
The party’s secretary general, Rep. Pablo John Garcia of Cebu’s 3rd district said they will set up a meeting with Magpale next week to firm up their offer.
“We respect the process and the decision of her party Bakud,” he said.
Garcia critcized the Liberal Party for “flip-flopping” on their choice of candidate for governor.
“We thought all along since last year that (Hilario Davide III) is their candidate for governor,” he told reporters.
Davide announced in the 888 News Forum last week that he was willing to give way to Magpale if the LP decides to field her as governor.
Davide said he was willing to switch roles and run for vice governor if that’s the party’s decision.
“I am confused but I am sure also that his supporters are equally confused,” said Garcia, who announced his own bid for the governorship last week, leaving One Cebu to look for another candidate for the 3rd congressional district.
“I would not be presumptuous to say that they are threatened by my candidacy,” said Garcia. He also denied that Paulo Garcia, eldest son of Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia, would run for office.Paulo transferred his voter’s registration to Barili in the 3rd district last week.
“That has not entered out mind. At this point, whoever is registered is being suspected of running but that has never been discussed,” Pablo John told reporters.
