BRGY COUNCILOR KILLED
A COUNCILWOMAN was shot dead in her store in barangay Matun-og, Balamban town, midwest Cebu.
Juana Caburnay, 43, had two gunshot wounds in the back.
A farmer and his son were arrested by police as suspects.
Ponciano Artis Sr., 54, and Ponciano Artis Jr., 34, a carpenter, denied involvement in the killing.
Police said Caburnay watched a beauty contest at dawn yesterday. The event was part of the barangay’s fiesta’s celebration.
Caburnay went to her store to get pins for the pageant winners but the assailants followed her and killed her. The case will be investigated further, said police./ REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
WANTED MAN SHOT
A MAN wanted for murder was shot and wounded by police when he resisted arrest in barangay Inoburan, Naga City, southern Cebu.
Police said Edwin Sayaboc was shot in the right leg after he drew a .38 revolver when police tried to arrest him Thursday night.
Naga police went to the barangay after receiving a tip that Sayaboc was in the area.
Sayaboc ran when he saw the policemen. Police gave chase.
