Over 1,000 families affected by floods in Cagayan–NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — More than 1,000 families were affected by flashfloods due to rains in the villages of Claveria and Sta. Praxedes in Cagayan over the weekend, a belated report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

Thirty-one of 41 villages were swamped in Claveria, affecting 877 families or 3,786 persons. In Sta. Praxedes, 10 villages were flooded, affecting 338 families.

Affected villages in Claveria were: Centro 1 to 8, Alimoan, Taggat Sur, Taggat Norte, Bacsay Cataroan Sur, Bacsan Cataroan Norte, Dibalio, Cadcadir West, Capannikian, Luzon, Tabbugan, Kilkiling, Union, Santiago, Pinas, Magdalena, Pata West, Pata East, Nagsabaran, Sto. Tomas, Sta. Maria, Buena Vista, Culao and Mabnang.

An erosion occured in seven houses in Bacsay village, Cataroan Norte, the NDRRMC said.

In Sta. Praxedes, affected villages were: Centro 1 and 2, Capacuan, San Juan, Portabaga, Macatel, Salongsong, San Miguel, Cadongdongan and Sicul.

Infrastructure was also affected, with national and village roads rendered impassable during the flashfloods, the NDRRMC said.

Two hectares of irrigated rice and 22.5 hectares of vegetables were also destroyed by the floods.

The provincial disaster risk reduction and management council released 1,500 assorted relief packs for both towns, it added.
