MANILA, Philippines — A baby girl was killed and two others were injured in a fire that gutted their home and nine others in Mandaluyong City Monday evening, a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM said Tuesday.

Fire Inspector France Embalsado of Mandaluyong Fire Department was quoted as saying that the fire started from the house of the Sales family and was caused by a candle that was left burning.

Teresita Sales, mother of Daniela and Benjamin, was quoted as saying that she attempted to save her baby.

The report said that roughly P500,000 worth of properties were destroyed and fifteen families left homeless in the fire that reached the fifth alarm before it was completely put out at 12:39 a.m.

Embalsado said that firefighters found it difficult to put out the blaze because almost all the houses were made from light materials, the street was narrow, and live electrical wires were all over the place.
