Couple injured in attack, robbery

A COUPLE were seriously hurt after they were shot by a group of unidentified men on their way home on Sunday night in Pasay City. Police said Luzviminda Advincula, 46, the owner of a ready-to-wear shop, remains in critical condition after she sustained a gunshot wound in the head. Her husband, Ebarsiledes, 62, was also wounded after he reportedly tried to fight off their attackers. Initial investigation showed that the shooting took place at 8:40 p.m. on Kamagong Street in Pasay City. The couple, along with nephew Edwin Advincula, were on their way home on foot when several men snatched the woman’s shoulder bag containing a still-undetermined amount of money. They immediately fled with their loot. However, the police said that while robbery appeared to be the motive, they were also looking into the possibility that the attack on the couple had something to do with the woman’s business.—Tina G. No work, school Tuesday in Pateros

THE municipality of Pateros declared Tuesday a non-working holiday for all public and private business sectors as it commemorates its 111th founding anniversary. At the same time, Mayor Joey Medina, who signed Executive Order 2011-01 for the purpose of commemorating Araw ng Pateros, declared that there would be no classes in the city’s private and public schools Tuesday. In his executive order, Medina said that despite the many significant dates in the history of Pateros, March 29 is considered “Araw ng Pateros” since it was on this day in the year 1900 that Pateros was officially declared a municipality. A town-wide celebration depicting the cultural heritage of the municipality has been prepared by the local government.—Tina G. Santos
