SFC wins men’s open crown anew
The Subangdaku Football Club (SFC) B became the back-to-back men’s open champion of the Cebu International School (CIS) Friendship Cup after prevailing over KN Ferraren, 3-1, via penalty shootout yesterday at the CIS football field.
SFC B proved to have steadier nerves than KN Ferraren after the regulation match ended in a scoreless draw.
LJ Reyes went up first and had no trouble finding the back of the net to put SFC B up one.
KN Ferraren’s Rico Ricaplaza leveled the game at 1-all when he also put the ball past SFC B’s goalkeeper.
Geordy Devela once again put SFC B at the lead during his turn. SFC B then rejoiced when KN Ferraren failed to equalize when Epifanio Ynot’s ball hit the right post.
Wilford Sabella’s goal a few seconds later sealed the win for SFC B.
SFC B advanced to the finals after dismissing Cebu Union, 2-1, also in a penalty shootout in their semifinals match.
KN Ferraren, on the other hand, spoiled what would have been a sister team clash between SFC B and SFC A after dismissing the latter, 1-0, in their own semifinals match.
SFC would have made it two titles for the day if CIS had not defended its home turf well in the Girls 17.
CIS bagged the title after edging SFC, 1-0.
In the Boys 14, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) blanked Villa del Rio (VDR) 2, 2-0, to clinch the title.
The Magis Eagles earned its finals entry after prevailing over Son of Sweat, 3-2, in a penalty shootout.
VDR 2 also survived a penalty shootout against Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI), 2-0, enroute to the finals.
SHS-AdC went home with two titles after its Players 10 thrashed Bright Academy, 2-0, in the championship.
Canduman prevented SHS-AdC from bringing home three titles after frustrating the Magis Eagles in the Boys 12, 1-0, also via a penalty shootout.
Canduman had a chance to also go home with two titles but Guiseppe FC fashioned a 3-1 victory over them to bag the Players 8 title.
The tournament will continue today with players 6, boys 17, girls 14, women’s open, BPO and over 40 to be contested.
