Cebu eyes 2nd win in PFF Suzuki Cup U23

CEBU guns for its second win in the Visayas leg of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Suzuki Cup U23 as it faces Negros Oriental Football Association (NORFA) at the latter’s home turf at the Silliman Ball Field in Dumaguete City today.

Cebu demolished Leyte, 4-1, last weekend for its first win in the tournament at the Leyte Sports Complex.

NORFA, on the other hand, is still eyeing its first win after bowing to the Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA), 1-4, also last weekend.

Cebu is represented by the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) and beefed up by seven players from other schools.

The team is manned by Joel Cahilog, John Ejara, Jestoni Pialago, Russel Layumas, Rikko de Guzman, Ronan de Guzman, Junifer Ebero, Agapito Baclaan, Junjun Pintuan, Jeff Lester Agravante, Rafael Broce, Henry Perales, John Lester Sembra and James Rodney Parel, all of USJ-R; Jason Calungsad of University of Cebu; Aljohn Armamento and LJ Reyes of University of Southern Philippines Foundation and Neil Anthony Rosauro, Edmar Madrilejo, Anthony Tabuelog and Ben Lorenzo Magbanua from Don Bosco Boys Home.

NORFA is manned by players from Dumaguete.

This tournament is played in a home-and-away format with the top three teams advancing to the national finals and will play against the top three teams from Luzon and Mindanao.

Cebu will have its first home match on March 31 against the Iloilo Football Association at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue.

Other home matches for Cebu will be on April 14 against NOFA, April 28 against Leyte and May 19 versus NORFA.  /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
