The Pasig City Police on Saturday announced the arrest of one of the suspects in the March 11 shooting of The Daily Tribune reporter Fernan Angeles.

In a phone interview, the city’s police chief, Senior Supt. Jesse Cardona, said his men had arrested one alias “Faisal,” at the floodway area on the boundary between Pasig and Cainta City Pasig at around 5 p.m.

He said a picture of the suspect had been shown to Angeles and that the victim confirmed that he was one of the three men who assaulted him in Barangay Palatiw on Sunday night.

Angeles, who sustained seven gunshot wounds, earlier managed to whisper the name of Faisal to his wife Gemma before losing consciousness at the hospital later that night, according to police reports.

The Pasig police announced the arrest after their higherups in the Eastern Police District drew flak from Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo for drawing media attention to a pending arrest warrant against Angeles over a 2011 drug-possession case.

They should be focusing on the hunt for his attackers instead, Robredo said. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
