3 men face illegal gambling charges
THREE men were charged in court yesterday for purportedly engaging in an illegal gambling activity in barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City.
Ralph Lopez, 19; Evereal Lopez, 26; and Glenford Sarino, 21, will be facing trial on charges of violating Republic Act 9287 or the law prohibiting the illegal numbers games.
Bail was recommended at P10,000 each.
The three accused were arrested by police last Friday for operating an illegal gambling activity known as swertres.
They allegedly issued numbers or combinations to customers.
The result of the illegal numbers game depends on the government-based lottery, the three-digit (3-D) lotto or swertres.
In their joint affidavit, the policemen said they conducted an operation against illegal gambling in sitio Alulmnus, barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City, last Friday.
When they arrived in the area, they said swertres outlets were swarmed with bettors.
The bettors scampered away when they saw the policemen.
