Storm warnings up in 10 provinces

MANILA, Philippines—Weathermen hoisted public storm warnings over 11 provinces as tropical depression “Egay” accelerated on Saturday.

Signal No. 1 went up in Northern Samar, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Polillo Island, Aurora, Quezon, Cagayan and Isabela..

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Egay was threatening the eastern section of Central and Northern Luzon.

The eastern section of Luzon would experience rains with gusty winds and would have moderate to rough seas. The rest of the Philippines would have cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms.

It warned of possible flashfloods in low areas and landslides in the highlands.

Pagasa said Egay accelerated Saturday morning and was moving northwest at 20 kilometers per hour. But by afternoon, Egay had slowed a bit to 17 kilometers per hour.

It had maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center. As of 4 p.m., it was 130 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.

By Sunday afternoon, Egay is expected to be 90 kilometers north northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, and 170 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes by Monday afternoon.

By Tuesday afternoon, it is expected to be 460 kilometers north northwest of Basco.
