PNR adds more train trips to Bicol

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Railways (PNR) has announced it will make available additional trips to Bicol starting next month in line with state efforts to improve connectivity between Metro Manila and key provinces.

Aside from the additional trips every week, the PNR’s management also announced the extension of the train line’s route from Naga, the current destination, to Polangui, Ligao, and Travesia in Albay.

The two new services, called the Mayon Limited De Luxe and the Mayon Limited Ordinary, will kick off next week. The MLD will run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while the MLO will run every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

These additional services will depart from the PNR’s Tutuban station at 8:30 p.m., after the daily Bicol Express which departs at 6:30 p.m. The new train services arrive 5:45 a.m. in Naga City, 6:50 a.m. in Polangui and 7:00 a.m. in Ligao, Albay, the next day.

The one-way fare for the Mayon Limited De Luxe is P716.00 for Naga and P768.00 for Ligao, while that for the Mayon Limited Ordinary is P416.00 and P491.00 for Naga and Ligao respectively.

The additional trains will have different configurations: the MLD will have three air-conditioned coaches, all of which are fitted with executive reclining seats, while the MLO will have three cars fitted with electric fan-ventilated coaches and fixed (nonreclining) seats.

      Much safer as on an overloaded jeepney or a bus with a kamakaze-like driver.

    trains are better than roads. look at japan. japan was able to develop its economy in the 1800s not because it has highways but because it was cheaper to transport people, goods and services via trains. the japanese extensive railway system improved their citizen’s mobility as well as help the local economies of places near the train stops. I hope they build more train lanes that would connect the north of ilocos to baguio to pangasinan to pampanga to bulacan to manila to laguna to batangas to quezon to bicol and extend it to mindanao. 

    i hope our government realizes that the better way fo solving our road problems is not to build more roads but to build trains to ease congestion in our streets as well as to make it easier for filipinos and tourists to travel around the country. 
    I went to europe and for me it was really easier to travel via trains… it’s like taking a train from the airport straight to your destination without the hassle of taxis and traffic.

       I like that idea very much but the authorities will have to find a way that people will not overtake the tracks to build their homes as it is common here.

      The Philippines had railways in the old times. There was lines even on Panay from Iloilo City to Roxas City and also on Cebu extending to north and south.

    Trains are more efficient, safer, and faster to move people and goods.  Imagine if most of our goods move through trains, hindi lang bibilis ang galaw ng produkto – mababawasan pa ang kotong sa mag transport ng goods. This will hopefully make the prices cheaper – mababawasan ang pagkabulok dahil sa matagal at matagtag na byahe at KOTONG sa kalsade.

    Tamang ang observation ni Pauline. Extensive ang train network sa Japan. It takes at most 24 hours to move a parcel door to door. And most take trains/subways moving in around (even though cars are cheap). Tokyo’s 20 million plus population relay on train/subway network everyday – they are fast, efficient, clean safe AND owned and operated by private sector not government.
