990AM: ‘90% of Cotabato City’ flooded; national gov’t help sought

MANILA, Philippines — Around 90 percent of Cotabato City is underwater due to two weeks of continuous rain, an official from the Cotabato Disaster Office said in an interview over 990AM Friday.

“Due to two weeks of continuous rain, 30 out of 37 barangay [villages] here in Cotabato or 90 percent is already flooded,” Sam Mundas, action officer of the Cotabato Disaster Office said over Tapatan with Jay Sonza and Den Macaranas.

“We are calling the national government to help us,” Mundas said.

Mundas said Rio Grande de Mindanao and Tamontaka River, two huge rivers that criss-cross Cotabato City were overflowing.

He added that almost 17 hectares of water hyacinth stretched along the two rivers worsened the situation.

“Even dump trucks can no longer pass by here. We are now using boats,” he said.
