4.0 quake in San Francisco Bay area—USGS

SAN FRANCISCO—An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 rattled the San Francisco Bay area Monday, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake’s epicenter was one mile (two kilometers) north of El Cerrito, California, at a depth of 5.5 miles (8.8 kilometers), the agency said.

It struck at 5:33 a.m. (1333 GMT).
