The Metropolitan Cebu Water District hosted the 33rd Philippine Association of Water Districts (PAWD) on Feb. 8 to 10 at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

Almost a thousand delegates and decision-makers in the water sector gathered and discussed issues confronting the water industry.

This year’s convention theme was “Sustainable water supply and sanitation in challenging times.”

This year, PAWD also held its first national Science and Math quiz, which was participated by the student representatives of the water districts.

In the elementary division, Danica Astillero of the Divine Seraphin Imelda Elementary School from Butuan City Water District bested the five other contestants. She represented the water districts association of Northern Mindanao.

Jomel Maroma of the Philippine Science High in Western Visayas emerged as the champion in the high school category. Maroma, who bested six other contestants, was from Metro Iloilo Water District.

During the opening ceremony, guests were entertained by Cebuano talents who showcased Cebu’s culture and heritage.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia welcomed the guests. She enjoined the delegates to explore Cebu as it has so much to offer.

Cebu City is home to a centuries-old Basilica del Santo Niño, the country’s oldest street Colon and the 100-year-old Buhisan Dam of MCWD.
