Associate Justice Velasco inhibits from petition filed by Corona

MANILA, Philippines—Supreme Court Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco inhibited from the petition filed by Chief Justice Renato Corona, SC spokesman Jose Midas Marquez confirmed Thursday.

Marquez said the petition filed by Corona asking that the impeachment proceedings be nullified was assigned to Velasco but he inhibited because his son, Marinduque Rep. Allan Velasco is one of the 188 lawmakers who signed for Corona’s impeachment.

Deliberation is still ongoing.
