MANILA, Philippines – The Senate, acting as an impeachment court, junked on Wednesday a motion for reconsideration filed by Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago against the subpoena issued to bank officials and records in connection with accounts allegedly owned by Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto read the ruling by the Senate immediately at the resumption of the impeachment trial at around 2:00 p.m.

“At today’s caucus, Sotto moved to adopt the motion for reconsideration made by Santiago in view of the contrary view of the ruling of the impeachment court expressed by the senator-judge through a motion for reconsideration. A vote to consider the motion is necessary,” Sotto said, reading from a prepared resolution.

“After deliberating on the issue, the majority resolved not to consider the motion for reconsideration,” Sotto added.

The caucus was held before the trial.
