New chief for M’daue college sought

The Mandaue city government is looking for a permanent administrator for the Mandaue City College to replace acting administrator Dr. Susana Cabahug.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) denied the motion for reconsideration filed by the Mandaue city government for Cabahug to stay as the administrator of the city-owned college.

With the decision handed down on Jan. 17, CSC-7 Regional Director Judith Chicano said Cabahug has 15 days to appeal before the CSC Central Office in Manila.

In November last year, the CSC ruled that Cabahug’s designation as acting administrator is invalid as she is also the Security Officer II of the city.

She was ordered to stop performing the functions and duties of the college administrator of the school.

Chicano said that an appointee to the position of Security Officer II, a non-career position, cannot perform duties of any position in the career service such as the duties of a college administrator.

Mandaue City Legal Officer Giovanni Tianero said Cabahug was appointed as security officer by Mayor Cortes under a co-terminus status.

But before Cortes’ administration, Cabahug was already a consultant of the MCC until Cortes appointed her as OIC college administrator pending the appointment of a permanent administrator.
