Lapid says wife Marissa is rich

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid on Thursday said that his wife, Marissa, who has been arrested in the United States for violating American travel restrictions, had the means to carry  $50,000 for her travels abroad.

So, why didn’t she declare it?

Foreign travelers are only allowed to bring $10,000 into the United States.

Marissa has been freed on bail in Las Vegas.

Lapid said his wife was carrying her own money, rejecting rumors she was smuggling his money into a foreign country.

“She has many businesses,” Lapid said when the Philippine Daily Inquirer asked how Marissa obtained such a big amount of cash.

Lapid did not give details about his wife’s businesses, saying it was up to her to disclose information about her private affairs.

“She earns her own money. She’s a business-minded woman,” Lapid said.

Lawyer hired

Queried on the case, Raul Hernandez, spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs, said: “We are in the process of getting information from authorities and persons concerned about the case in order to see what possible assistance we could extend to Mrs. Lapid.”

In a statement released in Manila last night, Lapid said his wife had already hired a lawyer to represent her in a US court.

“This is an unfortunate event but my wife is ready to answer all issues about this incident.  She already has a lawyer to help her with the case,” Lapid said in Filipino.

“We are still waiting for the details of the case from her lawyer and we would rather hear information about the case first before issuing further reactions,” he added.

Trading sand

In the Lapids’ hometown of Porac, Marissa is known to own and operate Marissa Hall, a multipurpose building that she rents out to the public.

Residents interviewed by the Inquirer said that Marissa and her family, who belong to the Tadeo clan, were also engaged in hauling and trading sand in the town.

The Lapid family is also reputed to own tracts of land in Porac.  With reports from Cathy C. Yamsuan and Tina Santos in Manila

  • Political Jaywalker

Rich but ignorant? Really Lito, you think we are buying that and what exactly is her or what kind of businesswoman is your wife when she does not declare her cash properly which as everyone knows is a legal requirement in entering the US?

  • Hey_Dudes

This is one of our uglier traits as a society we get caught and still try to wiggle from it.  Perhaps if this was the first time this woman had traveled to the USA it might have happened due to the long travel your mind get confused.  However, this woman along with family had been in and out of the USA and not to know this one important reminder in the customs declaration form prior exit of the custom is simply being a lowdown CHEAT.  It is an astonishing statement coming from a Philippine senator.  No wonder they still call us ‘third world country’!

    • jiroarturo

Hindi pa dinamihan. Mahuhuli din lang pala. Hidden wealth ba ito?

  • LeBox

Like her husband, she also perhaps do not understand english.

  • tadasolo

it is idiotic to bring that amount of cash but then again it must be hot money meaning undeclared money to avoid taxes in the philippines. Othewise it is easy to wire transfer money from one bank to another with a nominal fee.

  • PeteJrfern

minor case, just pay the fine hopefully no impresonment.  The bigger issue is in the Philippines, may asawa ka Senador then anak politician din so hindi ka dapat lumalabag sa anumang batas, lalo na sa US.

    • Jomjom

This is not a minor case. Ok, they have the money to pay the fine, even if it runs into millions of pesos. The problem is the prison term of 5 years.  This penalty is not convertible to cash.  The convicted person, no matter how rich,  has to serve the time. Maybe good behavior can reduce it. Look at Mayweather, he has to serve time even if he has a lot of money. He cannot pay it.

  • jiroarturo

  • Hey_Dudes

Is this good for only heating up his cushy chair inside the hall senator Lapid advocating to all richie Pinoys traveling to the USA they can carry as much money they want not declare it  just don’t get caught like his wife?

  • athenapallas

rich daw?! yeah, right, whatever. everyone in Pampanga knows that they steal the income from lahar – money that belongs to the people of that region. stop thievery now!

  • NoWorryBHappy

Lapid says wife Marissa is rich
Renate Corona also said he and his wife are rich.
The US government should look into a connection with the Arroyo husband and wife billion kickbacks. Money laundering may be a minimum charge.

  • wilms1963

katas ng lahar at pork barrel

  • Littlefox131

  • varmint

Of course she is rich. The lahar business was the milking cow for ages and the whole Lapid family made a fortune stealing money that was intended for government coffers until the scam was exposed. Still happens now even but to a lesser degree now that the stink has died down.Anyhow…..his looks good on her and the past is catching up on the Lapid’s slowly but surely. Bring it on !

  • Leg

I’m very sure these crooks have undeclared properties in the States!!

    • tinapiklaw

  • Yanong_OFW

She is rich? saan ba galing pera nyo? sa mga unitil din na mga pilipino na bomoto sayo..nakakahiya kayo…wala naman kayong nagawa kundi magpayaman..”I screwed up” lumang tugtugin na yan..

      • smokey

Just like the Arroyo’s. Bird of the same feather.

  • smokey

You cannot really trust any politicians or any of its immediate relatives anymore. This must be another ill-gotten wealth salted out of the country. This woman deserved scrutiny until she languished in the state jail.

  • Bikyo

The question is why she had to hide the $40,000 and declare only $10,000.  She
(including Senator Lapid) knows that she could have declared all the $50,000 that she was carrying.  It is not illegal to declare more than $10,000… unless the money is hot.  In whose socks did she hide the $40,000?  The senator’s????

  • ylem

    next to impeach. Lito Lapid!

  • rnoldrmada

Another one bites the dust….don’t they ever learn from other imbeciles’ mistakes? The Garcia brothers, Gen.dela Paz, etc….I wonder where she concealed the $50k. Was she busted by sniffing dogs or the $ were on her purse that the x-ray machine lifted them off it’s screen.
Did she really think that US customs are inept that she could perhaps get away with it? Guess what, after 9-11 US has been so vigilant against anything coming into their shores….money, weapons, suspected terrorists, etc. Nice try but it’s not going to happen.
The senator’s justification of his wife’s offense is a bit troubling. The senator is telling us that his wife’s is entitled to do such a thing because she is wealthy and could afford it. The gall of him and his bragging rights. But I think the seantor and his wife needs to get schooled on the other options of transferring money from our country to another……the legal way

  • Menyet

Pag ako eh nanonood oh nagbabasa regarding sa impeachment all of them defense group, congress group at senator judges they are the same. kahit imbestigihan mo silang lahat halos may yaman yan na nakaw. Magnanakaw galit sa kapwa magnanakaw.

  • brunogiordano

“Marissa, who has been arrested in the United States for violating American travel restrictions, had the means to carry  $50,000 for her travels abroad.”

  • w4d

I think the instructions for foreign travel are written in English. LOL.

Sen. Lapid says his wife is rich. TRANSLATION: (And with common ground to Mrs. Corona), “You are exempt from the application of the law that your husband (and every citizen, for that matter) is suppose to uphold”. Is this the best Sen. Lapid can say?

I wonder if Mrs. Lapid is a green card holder or a U.S. passport holder? Conflict of interest, anyone?

  • batangriles69

Nakakahiya!
Wala talagang kahihiyan ang mga iyan. Ipagbibili ang bansa
nang dahil lang sa katakawan sa pera.

  • arowana

Of course she’s rich.  She’s a Lapid and the Lapids, for a long time, claimed Pampanga’s quarrying operations as their own personal business.

I like this line very much ” Spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs, said: “We are in the process of getting information from authorities and persons concerned about the case in order to see what possible assistance we could extend to Mrs. Lapid.”

    • tinapiklaw

  • Anqui

Interesting to know…what business does Mrs. Lapid has that she could built from the ground up that she now have rental properties, and have $50,000 travel money?.  Lito Lapid, you stole soo much money from the Filipino people and in the Senate without any contribution to the citizens. You wife is a MULE to move money to the U.S …. P-noy, please check this guy out!!!

    • Hey_Dudes

In case you have forgotten, Lito Lapid got suspended by Joseph Estrada during his presidency due to widespread quarrying fraud in Pampanga.  Guess who ruled insufficient evidence after years of litigation?  GMA’s ombudsman!

  • Avelino

Lapid became rich because of the LAHAR SCAM.

  • Hey_Dudes

I am sure and I know most of you will agree – these Lapids are well aware on what happened when GMA euro generals tried smuggling euro currency out of Moscow airport and of the children of Caloy Garcia when they tried to smuggle in San Francisco International airport US currency worth $100,000.00 each or total of US$200,000.00.?  Yet, this wife of Lito Lapid whom he referred to as a rich wife did not learn from either cases.  Is it IMPUNITY?  It cannot be illiteracy since she is rich and a wife of a Philippine senator?

  • pinoyjunk

She’s going to jail. That’s for sure.

She’s going to plead guilty and her jail time and penalty will be reduced.

  • tadasolo

for the heck of me we need to elect at least logical senators who could wing it better than “she is rich” He could have said I made a mistake of counting the 20 dollar bills, there is so much to count

  • tinapiklaw

Paano ngayon yan Sen.

It makes one wonder why carry a lot of cash into the country. Has she ever heared of credit cards? Of course if you use a credit card, there will be a paper trail in case they get investigated.

  • joeldcndcn

tsk, tsk, tsk, yeah, then there is a need to gather all the ITR of marrisa lapid and verify all those riches where did they came from, he, he, he? besides, the USA laws don’t recognize any millionaire or billionaire, mrs. lapid violated the USA law, then she should go to jail, if proven by the court; USA COURT IS NOT A PH. COURT WHERE CORRUPTIONS IS A NORMAL WAY TO DECIDE A CASE, HA, HA, HA! THIS WILL TEACH THE CORRUPT FILIPINO OFFICIALS GOOD LESSONS, HA, HA, HA! ITS A SHAMELESS ACT COMMITTED BY A SENATOR’S WIFE, TSK, TSK, TSK, NO EXCUSESIS ACCEPTED!

  • noelpogi

  • CheapJ

Still fishy though. BIR should start investigating this couple. Too many hocus pocus took place in Pampanga during Lapid’s reign.

being rich does not justify her wrong doing……what kind of logic is that from a senator????????????? kasalanan ng bayan…..ibinoto daw ng 12-0 magic…..malamang nagkamali din sa pagbibilang ng boto,  eh I mean ng pera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • randyaltarejos

Oh, really! I wouldn’t be surprised at all why she was caught bringing in that much money into the US. According to Senator Lapid, her wife is a business woman so that she has so much money to carry with her. On the contrary, she should know that it is illegal to bring into the US more than 10,000 dollars, and it is also illegal to bring out of the US more than 10,000. And this could be the reason why Senator Lapid married her because she has a lot of money. Don’t you think so?

  • Komen To

Kung mapatunayan me kamalian, e di ikulong. Don’t judge Lapid because he is not a book

    • pakita_ko_sayo

If she’s such a competent businesswoman, then why the need to be transporting cold hard cash? The only answer to that is “cash is not capable of being traced,” or “attributed as belonging to anyone other than the person carrying it,”  – particularly so before it is laundered.

Call it what is is – black money, undeclared earnings.

We only get what we deserve. iboto nyo ulit si Lapid ha

Correct!

  • Ruben

So what if his wife is rich !  Can a rich not be charged of dollar smuggling.  Kaya nga nakakapuslit ng dollar eh mayaman nga.

  • ExpatSteve

“Foreign travelers are only allowed to bring $10,000 into the United States.”

This is not true. Travelers (Foreign or US citizens) are required to declare the amount they are bringing in. If more than $10,000 then it must be so stated and it may be necessary to explain the purpose for bringing it in. It is not taxed or subject to duty. If not declared, then it is subject to confiscation.

The Philippines has similar restrictions for incoming and outgoing travelers so it should have been picked up in Manila first.

    • batangpaslit

tumpak….almost all of Phil Gov’t officials are abusive: be it “elected” or appointed, including their spouses, children, and kins.
the bureaucrads from law enforcers to judges to cabinet secretaries are incompetent
no wonder the old homeland is never a place to live in; but, a paradise to be robbed.

  • Pogi

All the money that has been stolen by politician are invested in other country. They have mansions in a foreign land which came from their corrupt hidden wealth. This should be the people who are candidate on impeachment.

  • g219h

LOL. Mr Lapid, you fool. 50,000 in cash? What the heck. That’s 2 million pesos.

  • g219h

SALN of Mr Lapid and his wife.

the lapids had a case in the ombudsman regarding the misdeclaration of the true earning of pampanga government sand mining.  it was said they pocketed much of the earning.  it came to light when then governor panlilio found out that much can be earned.  but unfortunately, ex ombudsman gutierrez, right before her resignation ruled in favor of the lapids. no case anymore.

  • Iggy Ramirez

Then my hunch all along is true: that there is a net investment outflow from the Philippines into other countries as opposed to a positive foreign direct investment.

This gives us a clear idea that rich people, regardless of whether they obtained their wealth on honest means or not, will attempt to disregard the law thinking that they are all above it.

Marissa has made her fortune from selling lahar sand, thus earning the name “Sand Queen”.

  • gilmano

She has her own business. True – Polvoron, Longganisa and e-load.

Then she has USD 50K. Not declaring it. Kala nya makakalusot. Then says its for her house. How can you buy a house in the US? Mahal yan ah. Same as Mikey?

    This couple should be investigated.

  • buggy1667

5 bedrooms and 4 baths.

  • baguk_1997

Live in the same Barrio, this couple came from poor families. When he became Governor of Pampanga they got billions from the earnings of the sand, Apung Ed Panlilio can testify to that. The Government should go after their SALN and open their case. At present they own most of lands in Porac.

how I wish the same kind of Law implementation can be done here in the Philippines, without preference to the hierarchy of or person in power…even Integrity to sworn duty are barely witnessed on Philippine officials conducting duties for the country and people…it is so pitiful that we brand ourselves ‘of-world-class-quality’ when our norms aren’t par to the quality standards of public trust set by other countries whose standards we look upon and whose guiding principles we borrow, to make it part of our internal and domestic affairs…even simple and very clear traffic rules are vehemently ignored – lawlessness is already into our backbones, as we are now so used to the system of circumvention – since we are a supposedly ‘country-of-people-of-brains’, those who could best invent his way of going around and about the law, ends up as people of the ruling few…worst, this pattern goes down the common populace…and yet, we rant and make excuses, visions of how we should do things; everyone has there own good things to say, but nowhere can you see those visions implemented even by the very people who profess good things to and should be done…i really wonder how to make this country a better one, when the people themselves are apparently and inherently obtuse

No wonder the wife had 50G’s.  She probably thought that since she’s with the president , no one will notice.  Well, she got it wrong.  U.S. authorities has a way of finding.  And you know, Mrs. Lapid, in the court of law, being ignorant is not a good defense.  I am sure the husband senator was awared that any amount above 10G’s must be declared .  Just wondering why the wife took the fall.  I bet you, it was the senator’s money.  just asking????

  • Jon70

Good for her..she is now wearing a monitoring device in Las Vegas.

  • yousef

what of it? simply means she’s got lotsa money, and there are so many of them in the whole world. about one percent in the US of A are rich too! the rest are wall street occupiers but that’s another story!  but to break the law of the kano is an entirely different thing! in the home of the brave and the land of the free, NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW!

  • Marina

    • efren

Love of all the comments especially c5cjr’s. Indeed it is more fun and more money and more thieves in Philippine politics and perhaps more thieve justices. Pnoy, get them one at a time. Angelo Reyes already committed suicide. Next are Gloria, Generals Ligot, and Garcia, B. Abalos, Corona and others. Who’s next to commit suicide? Let’s support Pnoy, this is probably the only chance to rid the Philippines from corruption and out of poverty. Can’t believe Lapid’s wife did not declare $50,000 if she was not hiding anything. Her being rich or having lots of business is irrelevant. She did not only violated U.S. Laws but obviously, she is into something.

Whether it is his money or his wife money is a different issue for me.

My issue is that our OFW have been working so hard with their dignity down as domestic helper or other low end jobs for the rich foreigners in order to remit the nation’s most needed dollars.

But the high government officials and their family members are smuggling those precious dollars out from the country.

    Who is more patriotic?

  • mmm choco

it’s not the case of being having her own money ,but clearly trying to violate the rule. and she should be found guilty.. why will the govenment have to step in for her??  when she has her own money to defend her stupidity.???

That is what Justice Corona also said: Their family has the means and they are no ordinary family.

  • Jomjom

Ther goes the naive again. A fish is caught by its mouth. With what Lito said about Marissa’s many businesses, are these declared in her Income Tax Return? Are these declared in Lito’s SALN? Remember, they are legally married, so all these wealth is conjugal.

  • rem_rod

  • Anthony

Yes, Senator Lapid, your wife is rich, but why hide the amount you are carrying. In the US, you have to declare with Customs if you are carrying more than $10,000 in cash, checks, or bonds I think.  They don’t care if you are rich in the Philippines.  All you need to make it legal is to declare it. If you don’t, then that is subject to forfeiture, and you commit an offense. My question? Money laundering yan, Mr. Senator.

  • joeinmnl2005

The issue is dishonesty and such sort of discovery should be investigated since there might be wrong-doing. What if it is part of the tax money that we pay? Income and payments of taxes should be a good start since as they claim, they have big business such that earnings must be paid in taxes. If the they are under declaring them, which is also a crime, then it is a good start to showing our people that no one is above good governance. In this way, in the next five years, we will see tax evaders to align themselves under our laws or will be minimised. Of course, we cannot investigate them all, but those that stumble into the hands of the law should have priority attention when it comes to investigation. It should be this way. In support of good governance.

why spend PH government’s money thru DFA by assisting Lapid? she violated the law let them deal with it.

  • Vaga Bond

She’s not the only rich person from the Philippines who travels, and do these people break the law?  She should know better being a (pretending) senator’s wife!! Can’t you lead by example???? What a shame!

  • Vaga Bond

Attention DFA! Why do you have to provide assistance to someone who breaks the law? Let her face this case that she brought upon herself squarely. Don’t even bother with it!  These shameless politicians/gov’t officials are always the ones who destroy the image of Filipinos abroad.

Will translate to Tagalog so Lito Lapid can understand:Hoy DFA!

Hope she suffers the full extent of the law there.  No lawyers will be able to save her serving jail time there, they might be able to reduce the jail term but she’s definitely will be serving time.  Unlike here in this Country where Law is being implemented arbitrarily and is being defied, broken, disobeyed even by the supposedly Primus inter pares among the highest guarantors of the Law…Lawko-lawko ang madami dito, and a lot are wondering why we are stagnating and retrogressing??? Hay buhay sa Pinas

  • Grenouille Vert

Lito Lapid is obviously an uneducated and stupid senator for coming up with an excuse for his wife’s arrest..  As a lawmaker, he knows that countries have laws that need to be respected and followed.   Las Vegas is very lenient compared to other cities in the U.S.   Filipinos visiting the United States would surely have fun and have nice memories of their visit if they abide the law.  Otherwise, just stay in the Philippines where the law is ignored by the rich and influencial.

  • noypisiTED

Sen. Lito Lapid doesn’t get it. The people do not question nor mind if your wife is rich. It’s not about riches, it’s about honesty. It’s not about all the golds there are in this world that one have, it’s about human goodness. It’s not about titles and prestige one prefixes (or suffixes) on his name, it’s about honor. The Greatest Figure that ever walked the face of the earth counseled mankind when He homilied “what does it profit the man to gain the whole world yet forfeits his soul”. It puzzles many of us, indeed, why so many people, a lot of them not just ordinary folks mind you, they occupy the highest pedestal in the echelons of high society, corporate world, government and even the church, find it hard to just tell the naked truth? Hysteria and commotions would have been avoided had the wife of the senator been forthright in disclosing to the US authorities the amount she brought with her, that according to her senator-husband would be used for medical treatment. Did people’s moral compass already sink that low that those who continue to cling to being honest and virtuous are now deemed an endangered specie? At any rate senator, we wish your wife well.

Will. this money be turned over to the Philippine government? Is this property of Juan dela Cruz? There are a lot of questions that need answers here. You don’t just accept the fact that a wife of a Philippine senator was caught with more than the allowable cash in her luggage by US Customs without wondering whether this was done deliberately to “salt” dollars and avoid being detected by Philippine authorities. This is a serious and embarassing incident for our country

No one is above the law. Prudence dictates that Mrs. Marissa Lapid  should have followed U. S. travel law or otherwise declared the $50,000 she was bringing with her. Senator Lapid’s reasoning that her wife is rich is absurd and speaks loudly of the puny mentality of the senator.

The source of the funds cannot be determined at this time. We must consider that Lito Lapid was a popular actor before he became a politician and made quite a bit of money acting. Since he is a senator, maybe someone can produce his SALN too and we’ll see if his wife really has the means for such funds.

Ex-Ombudsman let Lapids off plunder case before quitting her post

Former Fake Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez cleared Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid, son Mark and three

ex-Pampanga officials of plunder in connection with more than P500 million in unremitted

    quarrying fees.

    NEXT in line for IMPEACEMENT!

  • orly8000dizo

  • 711sense

I guess just like what they are doing with the CJ, they should check Sen Lapid and his wife’s SALN and ITR. Get to the bottomof everyhting and that goes to everyone in congress as well as in the executive department. Do ‘em all.

  • ofwme2807

Sen.

Stop spreading lies against the Lapids.

Yes, Mrs. Lapid belongs to a wealthy and illustrious family.
She went to exclusive schools, fluent in French, Italian, Greek, and German.

We can vouch for Mr. and Mrs. Lapid.

    – Association of Unicorn Breeders of Angeles City.

    • 4kingdaddy

magkano ba ang napakinabangan mo sa mga lapid…languages don’t mean sh*t…the more talent you have, the more you know the hocus-pocus…could it be her that taught lito how to manipulate the quarry….for every truck load, your association must have received a bundle pf pay offs, that’s why you are so adamant in vouching their characters… balato naman, verbal…he..he…he…

    • white scorpion

yes, she is rich, she is a linguist. perhaps she is also jet setter. and yet one simple rule she doesn’t know. 10,000usd cash lang ang maximum amount one can bring in to usa. kaya…. KALABOSO SIYA for smuggling

      • Rare Earthling

        That’s funny, Lmao,

Once our kababayans learn how to read between the lines, mas tatalino na ang mga botante at tataas ang quality ng line up ng mga mambabatas ng Pilipinas…

        UNICORNS ftw!!!!
I really have to point that out.

      • white scorpion

        yes. i agree

    • Patas

Rather than saying to people ‘stop spreading lies against the Lapids’, it would be better if you will hark:
Wake-up supporters of the Lapids! You know well where the wealth of the Lapids came from (la-la-la-la-har) and it ‘aint clean and legit. Look now, these Lapids are enjoying their monster share of the cake, while you people are just there for the crumbs…. pity.

      • Rare Earthling

        You believe in unicorns, Patas?
You missed that part, didn’t you?

      • Patas

Nope. I just ignore things that are not real hehehehehe

  • rem_rod

ganun ba? magkano isang unicorn ngayon?

  • 4kingdaddy

  • muddygoose

Pede naman magdala ng more than 10k basta kaya mo i-specify ang legitimate source ng perang ito. Sa case na ito, mukhang walang legal explanation for the source kaya di ni-declare ni Mrs. Lapid. Resign na and prepare for litigation Sen Lapid!

    • white scorpion

it’s not important where the money came from. 10,000USD is the maximun cash one traveller can carry in her pocket when entering specially usa. one should buy travellers checks if more than the maximun allowed.

      • muddygoose

Actually, 10k is the max amount that you don’t have to declare. You can carry more, but you have to declare and provide plausible explanation as to its legitimate source and purpose.

      • white scorpion

        that’s your law, but not U.S. ….

  • Cynthia

Defensive agad, the question is not where the money came from, the question is why it is not declared.  The thing is she is a frequent traveller and rich at that so she should know how the Customs work in other countries compared to what she is I am sure very used to back home especially being a wife of a senator.

  • rjimenez1226

Mr Benigno Aquino, we would love to have Senator Lito Lapid and his wife prosecuted. Please  have the jail ready for them.

  • buggy1667

Reply to verbal kint where did you get your information that Marisa lapid came from illustrious family and can speak those languages you mentioned, she doesn’t even know how to speak fluent english and never goes to an exclusive school. During those days the only exclusive school that you can attend to is Holy Family Academy in Angeles. Verbal kint, ask and go to HFA since you are from Angeles. I’m 100% sure she did not went to HFA.

  • rouelcalzita

If you had commited an offense to your fellow, someday the curse will come thru ignorance.

  • Jimmy

lito lapid should resign pronto..!!!! can you imagine a wife of a senator not declaring her $50K at the US airport..!!!! lito lapid and wife don,t know the rules..!!!?????&$$$$!!? if lapid don,t resigned from the senate, kick him out by whatever means to save our country from the katangahan, kabobohan, katakawan, kawalanghiyaan, KAHIHIYAN, etc.

  • gikiness

they are rich because they own the lahar.

    • Rare Earthling

      • renante

        At nagsumikap sa pag-aaral

  • white scorpion

oh really, if your wife is really rich. that means she could have graduated from a reputable university. even if she is a drop out. she would be intellectual enough to know that she should bought TRVELLERS CHECKS. rather than bringing in cool cash. don’t argue, mr senator … that’s already smuggling. even you at the picture above. you looks like a rich senator. …..and perhaps your really rich, isn’t it.

  • Rare Earthling

Salamat Mr. Bakero at Mrs. Bakera.

  • andoybarrios

how did your wife acquire those businesses? imbestigahan yan dahil pera ng bayan ang pinag-uusapan diyan… punto na ito, hindi maaasahan na ang pag-analisa ni lito lapid sa kaso ni corona ay sigurado na papaboran niya ito dahil kung susundin ang formula ni corona na ginamit sa pagboto niya sa kaso ng mga marcos ay maaari din gamitin sa kanya…….maaari bobo nga si lito pero mas daig yata ng magulang ang matalino sa kalakaran sa pilipinas…..

  • cion

And Cory is a hero, she is not, she took the opportunity and grabbed the presidency from the legal vice-president who is supposedly next in line when a sitting President Marcos can no longer or able to stay in  his position esp. due to illness(kidney failure).

  • Guest

Senator Lapid, nobody is interested to know if your wife is rich or poor. Nobody asked if she is sick, or not. The question that was asked her was why did she willfully and knowingly violated a US federal law. Who said that being rich in the Philippines means you are exempted from violating US federal laws and grants you legal rights to smuggle dollars into the US?!?!? How stewpeed can you be!!! How did you become a senator when you cannot answer a VERY SIMPLE question?

  • sasama

  • doctor_mengele

So many versions and stories are coming out to save face by this idiot senator. Did he include the houses in the states in his SALN? Kim Henares of BIR, please scrutinize with a fine tooth comb, this idiot and his family’s ITR!!!

She was obviously not searched in the NAIA because LAPID is an “HONORABLE SENATOR of the REPUBLIC of the PHILIPPINES”. Por Dios Por Santo!! Santisima que Barbaridad!!!!

Another black eye to our Global Image. Look at Ms. Lapid’s face, “botoxized” and “facialized” already. Her neck is already where her cheeks used to be. Reminds me of Joan Rivers. She looks like an expensive “Obra Maestra” in an expensive attempt at Vanity. Gambling Habit in Las Vegas? Enjoying your Pork Barrel and comms from the Quarrying in Pampanga?

Grabe these Pinoy Politicians and Government Employess na namayagpag nung Panahon ni GMA.

Profiled na mga Filipino sa ICE when entering the USA, Mas lalo na ang mga Politiko at taong Gobierno….NAKAKAHIYA!!!

  • Dana

Lito Lapid’s wife is like the EURO-COPS who brought more than $10,000.00.

  • Dana

This is like reading a news with an allegation that a  Gloria- General  Juancho Sabban owns a mansion in Australia together with a female politician from Mindanao.

  • kulkat8

Senator Lapid this is not about once social standing, this is about the law.  Your wife violated the law of  the United States, period.

  • Jose Salem

  • charlie_oscar

    I saw this move before!

    Euro Generals and now…Dollor Senatorr!

  • redcloud

…not only did she violate US law, now she will be under scrutiny for having unexplained wealth too- magkano naman kaya ang binayaran niyang buwis sa Pilipinas kung tutuong kumikita siya doon?

  • randyaltarejos

Is Marissa Lapid the owner of the chains of Lapid’s Chicharon outlets in Metro Manila? If she is, then she must be rich. And the Bureau of Internal Revenue should find out if she is not a tax evader.

  • rodcasio

Pretty sure she knows the rule.

  • Johnny Ting

usual rhetoric of a corrupt gov’t official

  • oracle888

A grade 5 student was asked by his Pilipino language teacher to make a sentense in a Pilipino class.

Teacher  “Agustin, can you make a sentence using the word “lapid”.”

The teacher yelled, ” Silent! Silent!”  But the whole class is still laughing.

  • to0

He hehee. Lol!

  • Boy_PickUp

  • renante

Naku Koyang Lito Lapid, by saying she’s rich dapat isapubliko din ang binayad na buwis ng asawa mong mandarambong.

  • rjimenez1226

    Lapid should be impeached!

  • renante

Take 5! Koya isip ka ng ibang excuse…

  • kilabot

most rich people think they can get away with anything.

If you love money, you will never be satisfied; if you long to be rich, you will never get all you want. It is useless.  (Ecc 5:10)

  • mightaswellshootme

Manuel, you don’t have to reiterate that your wife is rich. Your initial explation will suffice, that your better half is seeking treatment abroad because of her heart ailment. We understand that.

No one’s asking where the lahar money went, at least for now.

Just bring lots of Kleenex every impeachment session, we don’t need to see your nose bleeding profusely on cam.

  • dinddong

Until now so many people were surprised how and why Senator Lito lapid is in the senate, he has empty head, knows only boxing

  • Jose_Mercado

For the last year alone she’s travelled to US 20 times and and if she’s really that business minded, as claimed by Lito Lapidus, she should know this travel restriction. Or she knew it all along and could be used doing it, kaso ngayon lang nabuking.

  • sacrebleau

    LAPID: “My wife is rich.”

TRANSLATION: If they find out that my wife is poor I’m finished. I told her to wrap the cash in foil and not to put it in socks. I should trade her in for a recent model.

Another one bites the dust. She is another general’s wife tasked to remove money laundered from the Philippines to another country. Alam naman ng lahat that they are not rich and they are only rich because of the money they received the quarrying. They should be investigated further!!!!

  • Coronarroyo

Ex-Ombudsman let Lapids off plunder case before quitting her post

Former Fake Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez cleared Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid, son Mark and three ex-Pampanga officials of plunder in connection with more than P500 million in unremitted quarrying fees.

  • mutawa

The best assistance DFA can provide is to bring back the money to Phils, return  back to the people to start up a livelihood project and investigate/prosecute Mrs. Lapid to tax evasion.

  • samarutan

Quarrying business! Will the Ombudsman take as second look at the plunder case filed against the Lapids during the term of GMA?

  • antonioluna

my wife is rich, she has many monkey businesses plus i gave her a portion of my pork barrel just to gamble.

  • alice_in_chains

    SALN ka din ngayon.

  • Mel

wealth is not the issue, rich? then why not declare the cash?

  • Weng Psndakekok

  • allandel

    paging kim henares.
lapid’s declaration is actually an invitation for the BIR to audit his wife’s returns on incomes from past and present. i’d also like to see if the senator from where gloria arroyo came from is telling the truth.

  • Dodge2

$50K baon para mag-casino.  Wow, sarap naman.  Ang daming slot machines ang uusok nyan.

  • Mike

  • Stephen

If Lapid says her wife is rich, why didn’t she declare the amount? Something fishy here??? If you don’t know your wife’s private affairs, I think you should be careful… the next time you hear about her news….it’s not going to be about money? Your old and she’s rich…. think about it.

  • Anne Torre

“Lapid says wife Marissa is rich”

Totally ignorant statement coming from a Philippine Senator.

  • Mary Ann

She should have declared it.  Akala porke asawa ng senador (VIP) makakalusot.

  • rjimenez1226

Please ikulong si Mrs Lapid after she serves her jail sentence in the  US.

  • 4kingdaddy

now, why would DFA assist this woman who violated the law of another country…just because she is married to a palpak senator doesn’t mean she deserves special treatment…she already hired a lawyer with enough quarry money to pay for it…BAKIT PA PAGKAKAGASTUSAN ‘YAN NG PERA NG BAYAN….she deserves nothing from us….

    • gikiness

      because she is filthy rich.
