Health workers conduct Operation Timbang (weight) and monitor the health condition of children and adults.

They would be assigned to the health centers  to assist in handling patients and also to improve their skills.

Ygonia said smaller sitios would be clustered and assigned to one health worker.

The bigger barangays may be given one or two health workers each.

“With the availability of more health workers, we expect an increase in our case finding,” said Ygonia.

Aside from having additional health workers, Ygonia said the city health office will also buy new weighing scales for Operation Timbang, which aims to improve the health of malnourished children.

Mandaue Market Assigns Eco-Wardens

TO ensure that the new Mandaue City Public Market remains clean, the Mandaue city government assigned five eco-wardens in the facility.

Placido Jerusalem, head of the team, said the eco-wardens are now ready to issue citation tickets to violators after they conducted a weeklong information drive.

Market-goers and suppliers are expected to follow proper waste disposal.  Otherwise, they will be penalized.

“We want the eco ordinance fully implemented to ensure that our new public market is clean,” Jerusalem said.

With this setup, he said the material recovery facility (MRF) of the market will be fully utilized.

Violators will have to pay P500 fine based on the Ecological and Solid Waste Management Ordinance of Mandaue City.

Another P1,000 fine will be imposed if they don’t follow proper segregation.

The new Mandaue Public Market was opened last Jan. 8.  It is equipped with a waste water treatment facility, spacious parking area at the rooftop, five cold storage areas, air-conditioned food court, activity center, conference hall, among others. /Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza

93-1 Proposal

THE Cebu provincial government and the 93-1 residents in barangay Busay agreed to a solution on their continued occupancy of province-owned lots.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia revealed that Capitol and the Skyview Park Homeowner’s Association have agreed that the homeowner’s association will buy lots 3 and 4 in barangay Busay.

The lots cover 5.2 hectares or 53,386 square meters of Capitol lots covered in Ordinance 93-1.

Garcia will meet with the Provincial Board members to seek authorization to sign the agreement with the homeowner’s association.

The governor, however, didn’t divulge the price for the purchase.

Ordinance 93-1 was passed by the Provincial Board in 1993 and the beneficiaries were asked to pay in five years a minimal amount for the province-owned lots they are occupying.

However, some of the lot occupants did not religiously pay their dues and also put up businesses that the Capitol viewed as a breach of the contract.
