Dive accident

A DIVER , who went spearfishing in seawaters off Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday, was found dead by colleagues 200 feet below the sea.

Alvin Uy,  who was in his mid-50s, didn’t reach the hospital alive.

Renan Olayao, a scuba diver and businessman, said he knew Uy would frequent a dive shop in barangay Punta Engano to rent  diving gear and contact a boat to go to  neighboring islands for spearfishing with a colleague.

Olayao said rescuers found Uy’s body underwater, with enough oxygen for 30 minutes.

Olayao said Uy may have gone deeper than 200 meters, where the sea temperature could have affected him.

Motel death

A 70-YEAR-OLD man was found dead inside a motel in Lapu-Lapu City yesterday.

He  was rushed to the Mactan Doctors Hospital but didn’t reach the hospital alive.

According to the police investigation, the motel’s roomboy received a call from the the man’s female companion inside the room asking for help.

The roomboy said he found a naked man on the floor. The woman was sitting on the bed.

The man’s relatives later said that the victim was suffering from high blood pressure. The relatives were convinced that there was no foul play in the man’s death./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
