36 hurt in 4-vehicle smash-up in Quezon City

By

MANILA, Philippines—A total of 36 people were injured on Sunday night in a four-vehicle smash-up that included two passenger buses on the northbound lane of EDSA in Quezon City.

Based on reports sent to the Quezon City Police District’s Traffic Sector 3, the victims suffered cuts and bruises in the accident, which took place near Gate 3 of Camp Aguinaldo.

Most of them were riding in the two passenger buses, the reports said.

The victims were later taken to East Avenue Medical Center and Quirino Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Based on the reports, the vehicles involved in the accident were a Mayamy bus (UVB-203), a Royal Transport bus (PYH-458), a Kawasaki motorcycle (3144-OQ) and a Nissan Sentra (XTT-553).

The reports said that at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Ronald Abangkay and Marjorie Abido were traveling on a motorcycle on EDSA with the former driving the vehicle. Suddenly, Abangkay lost control of the motorcycle, which fell on its side.

Alejandro Perez, the driver of the Royal Transport bus, which was behind the motorcycle, said he stepped on the brakes to avoid hitting the other vehicle.

However, the bus still hit the motorcycle and a Nissan Sentra being driven by Adolfo Aran.

The reports added that the Mayamy bus also failed to stop in time and smashed into the back of the Royal Transport bus.

Due to the impact, some of its passengers were thrown out of the vehicle although none of them sustained serious injuries.
