SC asked to stop Corona impeachment trial

MANILA, Philippines – An urgent motion was filed Wednesday asking the Supreme Court to stop the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona at the Senate.

In a three-page urgent motion, lawyers Homobono Adaza and Alan Paguia urged the high court to issue a temporary restraining order until their petition to declare as unconstitutional the articles of impeachment has been resolved.

“We are filing an urgent motion for Issuance of TRO to hold in abeyance the Senate impeachment trial until the petition [for declaration of unconstitutionality of the Articles of Impeachment] is resolved by the Supreme Court,” the petitioners said.

The two have filed a petition asking the high tribunal to declare as unconstitutional the articles of impeachment.
