Relief ship set to sail south

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Navy will deploy a second ship to transport relief goods to Cagayan De Oro City and Iligan City which bore the brunt of the death and destruction brought by Tropical Storm “Sendong” on Dec. 16.

The BRP Bacolod City (LC550) docked at the Commodore Divino Pier at the Navy headquarters in Manila on Dec. 24, Saturday, to take in donated relief goods.

Navy personnel who are working round the clock are expected to complete loading relief goods today to maximize the ship’s load capacity.

The BRP Bacolod City will make its first stop at Cagayan De Oro City before it heads for Iligan City.

On Saturday, Navy personnel loaded goods bound for Iligan City that came from the National Relief Operations Center of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which received the donations from various government agencies, non-government organizations and private individuals.

From the DSWD Operations Center, military trucks transported the repacked goods which weighed a total of 700 tons to the Navy headquarters at Roxas Boulevard.
