Woman killed, motorcycle rider hurt in accident

A motorcycle rider was hurt while a pedestrian was killed in Marikina City on Tuesday. A 56-year-old woman identified as Vivian Parcon, a resident of Marikina City, died while being treated at Amang Rodriguez Medical Center after she was hit by a speeding motorcycle as she was crossing the road around 6:15 a.m. The motorcycle rider, Russel Paras, 20, was traveling on the southbound lane of C-5 Bypass road in Barangay (village) Industrial Valley Complex in Marikina City when he hit the victim, Police Officer 1 Gaby Capinpin, of the Eastern Police District’s public information office, said. The impact hurled the victim several meters away while Paras fell from his motorcycle. He was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and then taken into police custody as a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide was prepared against him.—Niña Calleja

Proposals on forest conservation accepted

The Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation Inc. (PTFCF) is seeking concept proposals from qualified individuals, organizations and institutions nationwide. Proposed projects must deliver measurable results that have a direct impact on conserving remaining natural forests. Interested proponents should submit a hard copy of the concept proposal and attachments to the PTFCF office at Unit 11-1 VGP Center at 6772 Ayala Ave., Makati City. The electronic copy of the concept proposal should be sent to [email protected]. Deadline for submission is Jan. 17, 2012.
