3 injured in grenade blast

Two men riding on a motorbike tossed a grenade at a sidewalk stall in Barangay Poblacion 1 on Monday, leaving three persons wounded, said city police director Senior Supt. Danny Reyes.

The 10:30 a.m. attack took place about 30 meters away from a police-military detachment and near the house of Mayor Japal Guiani Jr.

Amok kills 1, hurts 3

One person was killed while three others were seriously wounded when a drunken farmer hacked them in Gumaca town on Sunday night, police said.

Herbert Cotoner suddenly drew his bolo and without provocation attacked Myra Ferrer, 16, Rona Lacdao, Anselmo Canela and Shaena Ferrer, who were all riding a motorized tricycle, said Senior Police Officer Eman Orivida, police investigator.

1 killed in NPA attack

A 63-year-old woman was killed and seven soldiers, including a junior officer, were wounded in an ambush by communist rebels in Bislig City on Sunday.

The soldiers from the Army’s 75th Infantry Battalion were on their way to buy provisions at the city proper when their truck hit an improvised landmine along an interior road in Barangay Maharlika, Supt. Martin Gamba, spokesperson of the Caraga police regional police, said.
