MANILA, Philippines – Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III has moved to convene the Senate as an impeachment court for Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Sotto made the motion immediately after the Senate resumed its session on Wednesday.

“Mr. President, the verified complaint of impeachment constituting the Articles of impeachment against Chief Justice Corona was initially referred to the committee on rules. May we now move that the same be referred to the Senate Sitting as an impeachment court as soon as the same is organized this afternoon,” he said.

When no member of the chamber objected to the motion, the Senate immediately suspended the session to pave the way for the convening of the impeachment court and oath-taking of the senators who will sit as judges in the trial.
