Ceremony honoring cop couple postponed

The awarding of a commendation to a police couple who were injured in a shootout with motorcycle-riding men in Manila did not push through on Monday because the official who was supposed to give the citation was absent. Chief Superintendent Antonio Decano, Northern Police District (NPD) chief, was to hand over the commendation to Senior Police Officer 1 Jerome Jalla, who also represented his wife, Julie, during Monday’s flag ceremony at the NPD headquarters in Caloocan City. “The district director is attending an important meeting at Camp Crame now, and since he wanted to personally give the citation, we will have to put the awarding on hold,” Supt. Ferdinand del Rosario, public information officer, told the Inquirer. He added that the ceremony would probably take place “within the week.” Jalla and his wife were wounded in a shootout with three armed men in Sta. Cruz, Manila, on December 3.—Kristine Felisse Mangunay
