MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Education National Capital Region on Fridays suspended the afternoon classes in all private and public high schools in Metro Manila due to the heavy downpour expected this afternoon.

In a Radyo Inquirer 990 AM report quoting DepEd NCR Director Elena Ruiz, classes in the pre-school, grade school and high school levels in Metro Manila will be suspended Friday afternoon.

“We apologize for the inconvenience to our parents but our primary concern is the safety of our children emanating from the latest advisory of Pagasa,” DepEd said in a separate statement.

This is in accordance with the pronouncement of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) that heavy downpour will be experience in Metro Manila and may cause flooding in some areas.

No tropical cyclone was seen within the Philippine Area of Responsibility but a low pressure area was seen 330 kilometers west of Puerto Princesa City. This will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Northern Luzon and Eastern sections of Central, Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms.
