Cold spell to hit the northern Vietnam

HÀ NỘI — A cold spell is forecasted to hit northern region on Tuesday evening, lowering temperatures of Hà Nội and surrounding localities to below 15 degrees Celsius.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, temperatures in the mountainous areas will be between eight and eleven degrees Celsius. High mountain regions could fall below eight degrees Celsius.

The cold spell will bring rain to Hà Nội in the coming two to three days.

Rain is also predicted in other northern and central localities with the expected daily volume ranging from 30 to 70mm. Mountainous provinces of Điện Biên, Lai Châu, Lào Cai and Hà Giang are expected to be engulfed by more than 100mm of rain each day.

The cold spell will cause rough seas and strong winds in the Tonkin Gulf and the northern part of the East Sea, including the Hoàng Sa (Paracel) Archipelago, the centre said.
