Tanod shot dead by neighbors
A 46-year-old barangay tanod was shot dead allegedly by his three neighbors in barangay Ermita, Cebu City, at dawn yesterday.
Bonifacio Abayan Jr. succumbed to gunshot wounds in the chest and left leg.
Brothers Rosendo and Wendel Dominguez and Junnie Banot were tagged as suspects in the killing. They remained at large.
The victim’s sister told police that last Sunday, Dominguez and Abayon argued after the suspect accused the tanod of tapping electricity from his house.
At 1:15 yesterday, Abayan was seen chasing one of the suspects. Bursts of gunfire were later heard.
The victim’s sister later found the tanod sprawled on the ground.
Police recovered two empty shells and a deformed slug of .45 pistol in the crime scene.
