/ 09:47 AM December 04, 2011

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – U.S. authorities said they searched a commercial airplane for explosives after it landed in Kansas City because the airline received a “somewhat suspicious” electronic communication.

Joe Sealer, spokesman for the FBI office in Kansas City, said Delta Air Lines Inc. received the communication Friday night while the plane was bound for Kansas City from the New York area. He said he cannot elaborate on the communication or how it was received.

He said the search found “no direct threat” and no arrests were made.

Delta officials could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday.

Kathleen Hefner, spokeswoman for the Kansas City airport, said explosive-sniffing dogs were used to search the plane. She said the 45 passengers were questioned and their baggage was searched.
