MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III announced Thursday a P10,000 additional holiday bonus for 1.67 million government employees.

Aquino told reporters that the productivity enhancement bonus “is due to be given by December 15.”

Budget Secretary Florencio B. Abad said that the additional bonus would be on top of the second half of the regular 13th month pay plus a cash gift of P5,000 which are paid to employees starting November 15 up to 30. The first half of the 13th month pay is given May and June.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IJ2DA4ZHFHZOM2I2UCLJGFY7GI Shai

these idiotic bonuses should be stopped….. total waste of money…. a great majority of govt employees do not deserve any kind of bonus… on the contrary their pay should be docked for being lazy, arrogant, ineffecient, you name it.  there i said it…

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IJ2DA4ZHFHZOM2I2UCLJGFY7GI Shai

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_K3LXAFBRNNR6HV2A5JKXTIQSGA Mahmahn

    • Anonymous

I think both private and gov’t workers contributed to this thru their income tax and purchase of goods with VAT.

kawawa ang mga taga-private sector ang laki-laki ng taxes. tapos pag pumunta ka sa mga government agencies, it would take them a very long time to entertain you. kasi nagda-daldalan, kumakain o kung anu-ano pa…

    Merry christmas!!

Some government employees like public school teachers may never see this bonus reach them.  Some teachers I know haven’t even received their 13th month from 2010 while many will see their money come long after Christmas is over. Others would have to pay back loan sharks because they had to borrow money at high interest just to get by while they waited for their delayed salaries.

10k worth of bonus is to score papogi points in the government sector…

  • Anonymous

P10000 = $200 more or less…. isang trolley full of groceries okay na rin. Merry Christmas to all!

You guys are one of the vital  pillars of changes in our government. Work properly, do your job and provide your utmost service to common people in need lalo na sa mga government hospitals, schools, municipalities, certificates issuing government agencies and departments. This 10K will benefit many poor government employees pero sana nasama na rin ang mga senior citizens of our country. I wished and hoped that prosperity is now within reach and great changes will happen in our country the Philippines very soon.

  • http://twitter.com/RussTol Russell Tolentino

I think this is also an indirect strategy to increase gov’t spending since the GDP in previous 3 quarters are on the decline.

PALPAK.

Thanks very much Mr. President. It will help a lot of families a lot. I just hope they just save this amount for the tuition fee of us kids and not too much on food and gifts. We should wisen up, we have each other to hold on all year round, and an end of the year celebration on sharing may be a tad too much. As Miley says, its not how many mountains one has overcome, its the climb. Its better to save now than to be buried in debt later.

Advance Christ Centered Christmas to one and all!

    To President Noynoy,

Kami ang boss mo right? So pakinggan mo sana ako.

  • Anonymous

    President Noynoy,

There is something wrong with this additional 10,000.00 bonus to be given to government employees.  Why?  There were budget cuts made and yet a bonus will be given to government employees?  What makes government employees better than the private employees who aside from the 13th month pay already receive their 5,000.00 bonus?  Much of the tax collected by the government came from the private sector.  Also no additional fare hike was given to ordinary public transport driver who has no fixed income and even 13th month pay received?  This is unfair to the entire voting public of the Philippines.  Yet last year there was no additional bonus given? Why, is this because starting next year, politicians will start to make feelers and early political presence will be done!  This is just a political move by the government.  There are more worthy projects where the money must be placed.  There are a lot of infrastructure that has to be built, classrooms to be added to decongest students in 1 classroom. Good teachers to be had and more state universities to be put up.  Your recent decision to give 10,000.00 bonus to government employees is a big blunder on your part please meditate on this move.  Are the government employees worth the extra remuneration you are giving?  The under privileged Persons with the Disability where no government educational program and supporting treatments has yet to put in place as a a full program.  Words are just words.  Everything has to be put in action.  Stop paying off your supporters (especially Abad who probably wants to run for public office) by giving bonus and getting their loyalty for the coming elections.  This is just early electioneering in the facade of Christmas spirit.

Well done. And the non government employees will soon get, like here last year, also an increase of their daily wage, imaybe again n the vast amount of FIVE pesos a day.  Because decent living of common and government employees is very different.
