Isabela town mayor suspended for 3 months

SAN AGUSTIN, Isabela – The Office of the Ombudsman slapped this town’s mayor with a three-month preventive suspension while it is investigating him for alleged irregular reimbursement of P50,000 in hotel expenses incurred by his aides.

Interior officials served the suspension order to Mayor Cesar Mondala on Tuesday.

Vice Mayor Virgilio Padilla, a former mayor, and Mondala’s political rival will serve as acting mayor until December 10 this year.

The Commission on Audit had earlier issued Mondala with a disallowance notice for the hotel expenses of his security personnel in 2017.

Mondala said he had questioned his suspension before the Court of Appeals. VILLAMOR VISAYA JR.
